2012 Olympic Games bell

It is the largest harmonically-tuned bell in the world. It was designed by the Whitechapel Foundry, but because of its size, they were unable to cast it. The task was carried out by a Dutch company, which caused controversy, as there was another British firm which had tendered for the job. Our picture shows Sir Bradley Wiggins 'ringing' the bell at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games. In fact, because of the half-ton weight of the clapper, the ringing was done mechanically. It was installed at its present site in May 2016.
