3rd Earl of Cholmondeley

Peer and politician. Born George Cholmondeley. He was elected to parliament in the seats of East Looe, and later in Windsor. Under his father-in-law, Sir Robert Walpole, he served as Lord of the Admiralty, Lord of the Treasury and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster. He created a home for foundlings in London, in the hope of alleviating the problem of child abandonment.
