Abercrombie Plan

Abercrombie Plan

The Abercrombie Plan consists of the 1943 'County of London Plan' and the 1944 'Greater London Plan'. Devised by Sir Leslie Patrick Abercrombie and John Henry Forshaw in preparation for regeneration after the end of WW2. The latter document was an extended and more thorough product than the 1943 publication. It focused on slum and bomb damage clearance, transport improvements and increasing green space. The Greater London Plan proposed that physical growth of London should be stopped by a green belt and that over a million people should move out to expanded towns beyond it.
