Abraham Vollasky

Abraham Vollasky

Alderman. Killed in the V2 rocket attack on Hughes Mansions. His wife Sarah was also killed.

Andrew Behan has researched Vollasky: Alderman Abraham Vollasky was born on 25 April 1899. In 1921 he married Sarah Medwick and their marriage was registered in the Mile End district of London. Electoral registers from 1933 show that they were living at 76 Hughes' Mansions, Vallance Road, Stepney. The 1939 England and Wales Register shows him recorded as Alfred Vollasky living with his wife still at 76 Hughes Mansions, and his occupation was listed as an Insurance Agent.

Together with his wife, who was born on 22 September 1899, and 132 other residents of Hughes Mansions, he was killed by a V2 rocket on 27 March 1945. They were both aged 45 years and were buried in Plot W, Row 33, Graves 15 & 16 in the Edmonton Federation of Synagogues Cemetery, Montagu Road, London, N18 2NF. Probate was granted on both their estates to Leading Aircraftman, R.A.F., Walter Wallis. His effects totalled £75-8s-10d whilst those of his wife totalled £51-0s-0d. In addition to being recorded in the Metropolitan Borough of Stepney's Register of World War Two Civilian Deaths 1939-1945, they are also both included on the Civilian War Dead Roll of Honour that is held in St George's Chapel, Westminster Abbey.
