Architect and designer. Depending on source he was born in either London or Scotland (but see below). He studied at the Glasgow School of Art, and during his apprenticeship, designed his first building at the age of eighteen. With Frank Tugwell, he was responsible for the rebuilding of the Savoy Theatre, and Claridge's Restaurant. For the Savoy Hotel's restaurant, he sculpted Kaspar, a black cat, who acts as a good-luck guest at tables when there are thirteen diners present. This photo of him as a boy is the only one we can find.
