Place

There were 4 mediaeval manorial boundary crosses in Croydon: Hand Cross, Hern or Hurn Cross, Stay or Stake Cross, and one of unknown name. They marking out one hundred acres of the old town of Croydon, an area within which the inhabitants enjoyed manorial privileges. Two were believed to have been located in elm trees. They had all disappeared by the late 1600s.
