Donald Ogden Stewart

Author and screenwriter. Born in Columbus, Ohio. As an author, he became a member of the Algonquin Round Table. This led him to befriend amongst others Dorothy Parker and George S. Kaufman, and becoming a successful Broadway playwright. He moved on to screenwriting and received an Academy Award for 'The Philadelphia Story'. He admitted to being a Communist, and was blacklisted in the Second Red Scare (part of the McCarthy witch-hunt). This forced him to move to Britain where he remained for the rest of his life, dying in London.
