Artist. Born into a family of artists either at 70 (St) John Street, now Whitfield Street W1, or 6 Great Coram Street WC1, depending on source. In 1842 Victoria and Albert started buying his works and in 1851 he became art tutor to their children, a post he held for 20 years. Died at the house with the plaque.

Painter.  Born Yorkshire.  Moved to London in 1835. Died Carton Hill. Wikipedia gives his birth day as "19" but the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography and My Yorkshire both give "9".
