Daughter of Richard England and Philadelphia Barttelot, both buried in Bath. Sister of Captain Richard Brian Barttelot England (1867- ), Rt. Rev. Henry O'Brien England (1867-1948) and William Walter Dixon England (1869-1933). The Right Reverend Monsignor Henry O’Brien England was a Roman Catholic priest at the Church of the Holy Apostle, Pimlico 1917-39.

Alternatively the memorial could refer to , born (1860) and married in Kent, but we could see no religious connections.
Our colleague, Andrew Behan, confirms we were on the right track with Barttelots. Emma Caroline England was born on 14 April 1863 in Stopham, Sussex, the eldest child of Lieutenant-Colonel Richard England (1832-1917) and Philadelphia Jane Barttelot England née Barttelot (1836-1918). Her birth was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1863 in the Thakeham Registration District, Sussex. On 2 May 1862 she was baptised in St Mary the Virgin Church, Stopham, where in the baptismal register it is shown that her family were still residing in Stopham and that her father was a Major in the 55th (Westmoreland) Regiment of Foot.
She is shown in the census that was conducted on 2 April 1871 as aged 7 years and living at 7 Norfolk Crescent, Bath, Somerset, with her parents and her three brothers: Richard Brian Barttelot England (1864-1912); Henry O'Brien England (1867-1948) and William Walter Dixon England (1869-1933), together with a cook, a parlourmaid, a housemaid, a nurse and an under nurse. Her father was described as a late Lieutenant-Colonel in the army.
The census that was undertaken on 5 April 1891 describes her as aged 27 years and residing at 6 Godwyne Road, Charlton, Dover, Kent, with her parents and her brother, Henry O'Brien England, together with a cook, a parlourmaid and two housemaids. Her father continued to be listed as a late Lt-Col in H.M. Army.
On the night of 31 March 1901 when the United Kingdom Census was compiled, she was shown as aged 36 years and a visitor, staying at the home of a Miss Helen Johnson, a proprietress of a laundry, at a house in The Poplars, Whitton, Suffolk.
When her father completed his census return form on 2 April 1911 he showed her as aged 47 years and living in a fourteen roomed house at 10 Grange Park, Ealing, Middlesex (now Greater London), with himself and his wife, together with four female domestic servants. He described himself a late Leiut.Colonel in H.M. Service.
When she completed her census return form on 19 June 1921 she described herself as aged 58 years, 2 months, single and employed on home duties in a seven roomed house at 12 Webster Gardens, London, W5, together with a female general domestic servant.
Electoral registers from 1922 onwards show her at 12 Webster Gardens, Ealing.
The 1939 England and Wales Register confirms her date of birth as 14 April 1863 and that she was living on private means at 12 Webster Gardens, Ealing, with a female maid/lady's companion.
Her death was registered as aged 92 years in the 3rd quarter of 1955 in the Ealing Registration District, Middlesex (now Greater London). Probate records confirm that her address remained as 12 Webster Gardens, Ealing, but that she died on 18 September 1955 at 1 Carlton Road, Ealing. on 22 September 1955 in the Kensington and Chelsea District, London. Probate was granted on 26 October 1955 to Frank North, a solicitor and her effects totalled £14,361-13s-4d.
