First United Nations General Assembly

First United Nations General Assembly

Held in in the Methodist Central Hall, Westminster. Eleanor Roosevelt was a delegate at this and subsequent assemblies.

The small triangle of grass to the immediate west of Central Hall, Westminster, originally called Broad Sanctuary Green, was renamed United Nations Green on 11 January 2021 to mark the 75th anniversary of the first meeting of the UN General Assembly. has a good post about this patch, explaining that there was a plan to add a black commemorative stone to the side wall, giving the history of the name but this has never (2025) materialised.  We like to collect lost plaques but have not yet started collecting ones that never happened.
