From : The Worshipful Master of the Guildhall Lodge No 3116, in both 1981-2 and 1982-3, was not the Lord Mayor, because neither was a Freemason. Instead Steiner, Common Councilman for Bread Street Ward and Deputy Grand Registrar of the United Grand Lodge, was elected.
He was born on 19 June 1912, the son of Ignatz Steiner (1875-1941) and Tekla Steiner née Hetz (1889-1971). His birth was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1912 in the Hampstead registration district.
When he undertook the Law Society's Intermediate Examination in 1935 he showed he was articled to C.G. Dehn at 85 London Wall, London, EC2 and gave his home address as 91a King Henry's Road, London, NW3.
Electoral registers from 1935 to 1939 show him listed at 91a Harley Road, London, NW3, together with his parents. In the 1939 England and Wales Register he is described as a solicitor still residing at 91a Harley Road, with two female domestic servants. He is also shown as a member of the Auxiliary Fire Service attached to London Station B.93.
He married Joyce Annie Lane (1916-1994) in the 4th quarter of 1939 in the Hampstead registration district and they had three daughters whose births were all registered in the Amersham registration district, Buckinghamshire: Jill M. Steiner (b.1941), Amry F. Steiner (b.1943) and Catherine P. Steiner (b.1948).
Telephone directories from 1952 to 1964 show him listed at Marsham Lane House, Marsham Lane, Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire but in 1982 at Keramikos, Marsham Lane, Gerrards Cross. From 1990 he was resident at 18 Bulstrode Court, Oxford Road, Gerrards Cross, SL9 7RR.
He died, aged 95 years, on 12 December 2007 in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire.
