G. A. Henty

Author. Born George Alfred Henty in Trumpington, near Cambridge. He volunteered for the Army Hospital Commissariat, and was sent to the Crimea, where he witnessed the appalling conditions under which British soldiers had to fight. He wrote 122 historical adventure novels which were popular in his time, but these are now virtually forgotten.
