George Thomas

George Thomas

Thomas George Thomas, 1st Viscount Tonypandy, PC, served as a Labour MP and Speaker of the House of Commons 1976-83. Known by the nickname "Tommy Twice" (from his full name).

Born in Port Talbot, Wales and died Cardiff. Twice was twice engaged (sorry, irresistible) but never married, he was a closet homosexual subjected to blackmail. This only came out after his death. Deeply religious and  a prominent member of the Methodist Church. He was a local preacher and one-time Vice-President of the Methodist Conference.
