George William Osborn

Businessman and politician.

Member of the Chelsea Vestry Hall Building Committee in 1885. And, as acting-Chairman of the Vestry, he laid the stone for the new Vestry Hall in 1885. Chairman of the Vestry for many years. Chairman of the Chelsea Library Commissioners. President of the Chelsea Liberal Association in 1888. 1889-90 on the LCC. 

Born in Chelsea, the son of George William Osborn of Gravesend. Kent. Entered business as a wallpaper manufacturer. In 1871 married Isabella, the daughter of William Lawrence who in 1885 was also a member of the Chelsea Vestry.

1888 Moved to Uplands, Heathfield, East Sussex where he became chairman of the local parish council, and from 1898 on East Sussex County Council. Chairman of the County Council 1906-1910 and a member of the Sussex Territorial Force Association.
