Hounslow Town Station

Hounslow Town Station

Former London Underground station. It was first opened by the District Railway (precursor of the District Line), as the terminus of an extension from Acton Town. It was intended to continue the line south to join the tracks of the London and South Western Railway, but the LSWR objected to this, and the station closed in 1886. It re-opened in 1903, but closed permanently in 1909. Demolished 1912 and no trace of the building exists. The site is now occupied by Hounslow bus garage. Our explains more about the on-off life of this station.

This looks to be the image on which the plaque's line drawing was based.
