John Humffreys Parry

Born Flintshire, Wales. Came to London in 1807 to train as a lawyer at the Temple.  Called to the bar in 1811.  But he was unsuccessful in this profession and turned to writing about Welsh history and antiquities, setting up his own, short-lived, journal. He was associated with both the Gwyneddigion Society and the Cymmrodorion Society and we think he was probably associated with Iolo Morganwg.  Parry had a reputation for his short temper and in the Prince of Wales tavern, Pentonville, got into an argument with a bricklayer named Bennett, following which Bennett attacked and killed him in the street outside, North Street, where the plaque is.

Not to be confused with his son of the same name who was a successful barrister.
