Composer, born John Nicholson Ireland, at Inglewood, St. Margaret's Road, Dunham Massey, Altrincham, Cheshire. Studied at the Royal College of Music. His music belongs to the school of English Impressionism. His best known works are 'A Downland Suite' and 'Concertino Pastorale'. Died at Rock Mill, Washington, Sussex.
