We can’t find a picture of the man but here’s the cup he was presented with, inscribed: “Thames Navigation & Port of London Committee RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY THAT THIS COMMITTEE FEEL MUCH PLEASURE in tendering TO JONATHAN THORP ESQr the expression OF THEIR CORDIAL THANKS FOR HIS ABLE CONDUCT in presiding over them as chairman DURING THE PAST YEAR for the Upright and Judicious manner in which he has guided the business and his conscious anxiety to fulfil the desires AND MAINTAIN THE CHARACTER OF THE COMMITTEE AND THE MEMBERS HAVE GREAT PLEASURE in adding their warm acknowledgments FOR HIS UNIFORM COURTESY AND ATTENTION. 1858.”
