Joseph Payne

adds that he was on the Middlesex circuit and died aged 72.

Our colleague, Andrew Behan, adds that Joseph Payne was born on 13 November 1797 in the St Alphege's area of the City of London.

In the 1851 census he is shown as aged 53 years and a practising barrister residing at 9 Inner Temple Lane, Strand, Middlesex (now Greater London).

When the 1861 census was undertaken he was shown as aged 63 years and an assistant judge in the Middlesex Sessions, still living at 9 Middle Temple Lane, Strand.

Having lived at West Hill Cottage, Highgate, Middlesex (now Greater London), he died, aged 72 years, on 29 March 1870, his death being registered in the 1st quarter of 1870 in the Pancras Registration District, Middlesex (now Greater London).

His on 2 April 1870 in the North London or Kentish Town and Highgate Cemetery (now called Highgate Cemetery) Swain's Lane, London, N6 6PJ.
