Kensington Hippodrome

A horse race course built by entrepreneur John Whyte. It was not a success partly because the clay ground was not suitable and partly because the local population (slum-dwellers, basically) unlike today, was also not suitable. The land was leased from the Ladbroke Estate and when the business failed the Estate built the current leafy streets.
