Categories: Benefactor

Lady Dacre

Gentlewoman and benefactress. Born Anne, daughter of Sir Richard Sackville, treasurer to the exchequer of Queen Elizabeth I. She married Gregory Fiennes, who subsequently became 10th Baron Dacre. In her will she made provision for the erection of The Emanual Hospital, as an almshouse and school for poor children.

Anne died in Beaufort House, the former house of Sir Thomas More, which Anne and Gregory had inherited in 1585 from her mother, the widow of  John Paulet.

This photo shows the 1595 Dacre Monument in Chelsea Old Church, to Gregory and Anne.
