Lieutenant John Richards Lapenotiere

Born in 1770 in Ilfracombe, Devon, to a Huguenot family.

As a Lieutenant in command of HM Schooner 'Pickle' he brought the news from the Battle of Trafalgar, landing at Falmouth, Cornwall on 4 November 1805 and then carried the news along the Trafalgar Way to the Admiralty in Whitehall.

When he retired from the Royal Navy he lived in , Menheniot, near Liskeard in Cornwall, with his second wife Mary Ann Lapenotiere née Graves and his family. He died on 19 January 1834 from complications following a fall from a horse and is of the Parish Church of St Lalluwy, 7 East Road, Menheniot, Liskeard, PL14 3RR.
