New Cross (Equitable) Building Society

Established in 1866 this Building Society was closed down in 1984 by the Registrar of Friendly Societies for what were then considered unsafe business practices. From : "The New Cross Building Society became part of the Woolwich & Equitable Building Society in March 1984, which then became just Woolwich in May 1990. Woolwich has, of course, since turned into a PLC."
