Rev. John Venn

Rev. John Venn

Clergyman and anti-slavery campaigner.  Born Clapham, son of the vicar at the time. 1792, under John Thornton's will, appointed rector of Clapham, a post he held until his death and where he was a founding member of the Clapham Sect. Grandfather of Dr John Venn. Died Clapham.

The Venns are such a confusing family we think someone should invent a diagram to help us understand them. Meanwhile here's a list of the Henrys and Johns:
Rev Henry Venn 1725 - 1797 (religious texts)
Rev John Venn 1759 - 1813 (Clapham Sect)
Rev Henry Venn 1796 - 1873 (CMS)
Dr John Venn 1834 - 1923 (diagram).
