Reverend Augustus M Toplady

Cleric and hymn writer. Born Augustus Montague Toplady in Farnham, Surrey. His family moved to Ireland, and he attended Trinity College, Dublin. He was a follower of John Wesley and converted to Methodism, but later turned to Calvinism. He was ordained as an Anglican deacon in 1762. He wrote several hymns, and is best known for 'Rock of Ages'.
