Richard Titmuss

Social researcher and teacher. Born Richard Morris Titmuss at Farm lane, Stopsley, near Luton. He became concerned with the social differences between the north and south of England, publishing 'Poverty and Population' in 1939. In 1942 he was made chair of the London School of Economics, where he transformed the teaching of social work and social workers. Died in the Central Middlesex hospital.
