Dramatist and author. Wrote 50 plays, four volumes of short stories, two volumes of essays, much journalism and a book on the subject, a children's book, some poetry, and other assorted writings. His plays (many in the 'kitchen sink' school) have been translated into 20 languages, and performed worldwide.
Born Stepney, lived many years in Hackney, and attended Northwold Primary School, 1940-3. Served in the RAF. Attended what is now the London Film School. Active in the Nuclear Disarmament movement which gave him some jail time in 1961. Leader of the performing arts initiative Centre 42 which attempted to convert the Camden Roundhouse into an arts venue.
