Countries: France

Sir Augustus Harris

Actor and theatre manager. Born Paris, into an international theatre family. ‘Father of Modern Pantomime', he introduced stars of popular music hall into his Christmas pantomimes.

From aged 27 for the rest of his life he ran the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and was nick-named 'Druriolanus'. He founded the Drury Lane Lodge of Freemasons, mainly consisting of actors, which, we believe, still meets at the theatre.

Died at home, 2 Bedford Place.
