Sir William Boreman

A clerk to the Board of Green Cloth (a position in the British Royal Household responsible for organising royal journeys and assisting in the administration of the Household) from 1671 to 1685. He was one of the designers of Greenwich Park and founded the Green Coat School in 1672 in Greenwich.

About the Green Coat School, gives: "This was situated in Orange Lane {possibly 'Prince of Orange Lane'} near Straightsmouth {Greenwich} and in 1851 had 25 boys aged between 8 and 13. The School was originally built and endowed in 1672 by Sir William Boreman who stipulated that apart from being born in Greenwich, which in 1851 all were, the boys were to be sons of watermen, seamen and fishermen especially if they had served the King in wars."
