Sir William Rothenstein

Artist. Born at 4 Spring Bank, Bradford, Yorkshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art in London, and at the Académie Julian in Paris, where he met and was encouraged by James McNeill Whistler and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec. Principal of The Royal College of Art from 1920 to 1935. He was an official artist in both world wars. Died at Iles Farm, Far Oakridge, near Bisley, Gloucestershire.
