Sloane Court East V1 bomb

Sloane Court East V1 bomb

The V1 bomb arrived at 7.47 on a Monday morning, landing at the top end of Sloane Court East destroying many buildings and many lives. The extent of the physical damage can easily be seen by looking at the architecture in that street - about half the length of the street on both sides had to be rebuilt.

The bomb killed 65 American servicemen and 9 local resident civilians. Glenn Miller and his band had a lucky escape, having been stationed at Sloane Court but they moved the day before the bomb.

For more photos and for details of which buildings were damaged see the excellent website dedicated to this event, and our source.

2022: tells the story very well.
