Spike Milligan

Goon. Born as Terence Alan Milligan near Bombay, India, his father being an Irish soldier who met his wife, Florence Winifred Kettleband, in India. Both parents were amateur, would-be professional, entertainers. The picture source website gives a good summary of this very funny man's career. Died at home in Sussex. Buried at Winchelsea, his headstone, at his behest, is inscribed: 'I told them I was ill', in Gaelic.

First President of the Finchley Society. At the statue unveiling the Chair of that Society was : "He didn't just say 'use my name'. He actually came to committee meetings, and he took it very seriously. He wasn't a Goon all of the time."

He also, twice, got the Elfin Oak restored.
