Stewart D. Headlam

Stewart D. Headlam

Stewart Duckworth Headlam was born on 12 January 1847 in Wavertree, Liverpool, Lancashire, the fourth of the five children of Thomas Duckworth Headlam (1806-1885) and Latitia Headlam née Simpson (1822-1869). His father was an insurance broker. He was baptised by his uncle James Garnett Headlam, who was a curate in Liverpool, on 13 March 1847 at Holy Trinity Church, Wavertree.

The picture source outlines his life and career but the plaque in Wilmot Street confirms that he was the curate of St Matthew's Parish Church, Bethnal Green from 1873 to 1877 and that for 33 years he served the people of Bethnal Green on the School Board and County Council.

He died, aged 77 years, on 18 November 1924. Probate records show that he died at home, 'Wavertree', St Peter's Road, St Margaret's, Twickenham, Middlesex and that when probate was granted on 1 January 1925 to Martha Lugg Wooldridge who was described as a spinster and to his solicitor Herbert Pennington, his effects totalled £5,753-4s-0d.

He was buried in the in Richmond Surrey.
