Sydney Monckton Copeman

Medical Scientist. Born as Sydney Arthur Monckton Copeman in the cathedral close, Norwich. He was a medical inspector in the Local Government Board (forerunner to the Ministry of Health), where Sir Joseph Lister helped to fund his researches. He transformed vaccination against smallpox into a sure and safe operation. Died at King's Gardens, Hove, Sussex.
