Tancred Borenius

Art historian, author and diplomat. Born Carl Tancred Borenius, in Vyborg, Finland. He was one of the world's leading experts on Italian art of the early Renaissance. He moved to London in 1909, and was the first professor of history of art at University College London.

It is thought that during WW1 he worked as a spy for the British government, and was instrumental in enticing Rudolf Hess to fly to Britain in 1941. Died Wiltshire.
