The Keskidee

Britain's first black arts and cultural centre. Named for a Caribbean singing bird (which seems to sing Qu'est-ce qu'-il dit?), it was founded by Oscar Abrams (1937-96). It had a library, gallery, studios, theatre and restaurant. It also had its own drama company, artists in residence and was a hub for African and Afro-Caribbean politics and arts. The photograph is of a children's event in September 1977. was shot here. A 7 year-old Naomi Campbell apparently puts in an appearance.
