Water-colour painter. Born Great Bandy Leg Walk, Southwark but brought up in the City. Worked alongside Turner as a copyist 1794 to 1797. Toured Britain painting local views. 1802 Girtin painted the 'Eidometropolis', a circular panorama of London, 18 ft high and 108 ft in circumference which was well received but has not survived. Died in his studio in the The Strand, only 27.
