W. E. H. Lecky

Historian. Born William Edward Hartpole Lecky in Newtonpark, County Dublin, Ireland. Initially he studied to be a priest in the Protestant Church of Ireland, but turned to historiography. His chief work is 'A History of England During the Eighteenth Century' published in parts from 1878 to 1890. Died at his home, 38 Onslow Gardens.
