William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke

Nobleman, politician, and courtier.

Herbert's first wife, Anne Parr, was a sister of Queen consort Catherine Parr, sixth wife to Henry VIII. Guardian of the young Edward VI, by whom he was created 1st Earl of Pembroke in 1551. Herbert's eldest son was married to Lady Jane Grey's sister.  As Queen Mary gained power Pembroke distanced himself from the Grey family by having his son's marriage annulled.
