World Trade Centre, London - St Katherine Docks

The phrase on the plaque "World Trade Centre, London" is new to us, so we investigated.

A (also World Trade Centre or WTC) is a building or complex of buildings used for the promotion and expansion of trade and licensed to use the "World Trade Center" name by the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA).

's list of WTCs has only one entry for London and it's not at St Katherine Docks. What is now (2024) the Hilton Canary Wharf was built in 1991 as The World Trade Centre, London. Badly damaged by the IRA in 1996, plans to redevelop it as offices and retain the name were cancelled after September 11, 2001.  The frame was reclad and it became the Hilton Canary Wharf.

However the hold records described as "World Trade Centre in London Ltd: development at World Trade Centre London, St. Katherine by the Tower, E1" covering the period 1969-1974.

has photos by Paul Webster showing the St Katherine Docks World Trade Centre captioned with dates between 1971 and 2018. The image on this page is dated 1971 and shows the WTC in the background.

Putting all this together we deduce that the St Katherine Docks World Trade Centre was built by 1971 and rebuilt in 1985.  Then in 1991 it moved to a new building in Canary Wharf. This ceased to function as a WTC in 1996, and, it seems, was not replaced.
