King's College London

Site: Aalia Mahomed (1 memorial)

WC2, Strand, St Mary Le Strand church

Mid-morning on 18 March 2025 a van was driven on to a pavement in the Strand outside King's College. Aalia was killed and two other students were injured, one a woman aged 27, seriously, the other, a 23 year old man, was discharged. The 26-year-old driver of the dark grey Ford Transit van was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, and arrested again while in custody on suspicion of drug driving offences.

A large shrine of flowers, candles and written tributes, quickly appeared against the wall under the flowering Magnolia that you can see in this photo. The vice-chancellor announced that a cherry blossom tree, which would flower at this time each year, will be planted outside St Mary Le Strand church as a permanent memorial to Aalia.

2025: Aalia Mahomed was by King’s College and a plaque was unveiled at the tree.

December 2025: The driver of the vehicle was charged.

March 2026: . We visited to take these photos.  The cherry tree was in blossom but is still quite small.
