Plaque

Alexander Parkes and Parkesine

Inscription

First plastic in the world, known as 'parkesine', invented by Alexander Parkes. First made near this site, 1866 at the Parkesine Works.
London Borough of Hackney

Site: Alexander Parkes and Parkesine (2 memorials)

E9, Wallis Road, 85, HTA

, an archaeological desk-based assessment, contains some maps of the area, at least one of which shows the Parksine {sic} Works, on this site. With the Atlas Works next door.

2025: Mr Little informed us that Hackney Wick and Fish Island have undergone extensive redevelopment, causing this plaque to be moved. It's now on a building set back from Wallis Road, on the north side of a courtyard. We've moved our pin accordingly. Our thanks to HTA for putting this photo on their website.

We've kept the photo of the previous location which was in Berkshire Road, at the junction with Felstead Road.
