Stone

Archaeology standing stone

Erection date: 5/6/2013

Inscription

{On the wooden plaque:}
This sarsen stone was erected to mark the 75th anniversary of the UCL Institute of Archaeology in 2012.
MEC UCL

tells that the sarsen stone was donated by a farmer in the Avebury area of Wiltshire. We cannot explain the "MEC" - perhaps it's a company involved in the transportation/erection of the stone.

WC1, Gordon Square, Garden

Yeah, it's not a good photo of the stone, but it does clearly show where it is in the garden, the north west corner. The Institute of Archaeology occupies the building shown to the right of our photo - it runs along the whole north side of the square and was purpose-built in 1958.
