Plaque

Bell Moor House - Beecham

Inscription

Sir Thomas Beecham, 1879 - 1961, conductor and impresario, lived here, 1937 - 1941.
Erected by the Heath & Hampstead Society

Site: Bell Moor House (2 memorials)

NW3, East Heath Road, Bellmoor

There are two other plaques on the front of this building. They don't commemorate anything so we can't really enter them as memorials but they are worth noting. They are each made of engraved slate. One has a schematic of St Paul's Cathedral dome and shows that the ground at St Paul's is 54' above sea level and the top of the cross is 365' above the ground. The level of soil at this spot {Bell Moor} is 435' 7" above sea level. The other plaque says:

Bellmoor, Hampstead Heath. The surface of the soil is here 435' 7" above sea level or 16' 7" higher than the top of St Paul's cross.

Current large apartment block was built in 1929.
