Plaque

Bermondsey Abbey - Bermondsey Square

Erection date: 11/9/2010

Inscription

Bermondsey Abbey, founded as a Priory of the Order of Cluny, stood here, 1082 - 1538.
London Borough of Southwark - voted by the people

Site: Bermondsey Abbey & Frederick Holmes VC (2 memorials)

SE1, 3 Bermondsey Square

Photos from the other side of the street were made impossible by the bright sunshine. The Abbey plaque is trying to hide behind one of the olive trees. Holmes' pavement plaque is about 3 flags away from the traffic cone.

This is the low number end of Abbey Street so the plaque is close to Holmes's birth place, number 23.
