Erection date: 14/11/2022

Inscription

Boris Nemtsov, 9 October 1959 - 27 February 2015. Camden remembers Boris Nemtsov, who courageously stood up for democracy, justice and peace.

Boris Nemtsov, Deputy Prime Minister of Russian under Boris Yeltsin, led opposition to and openly criticised Vladimir Putin's government. He labelled it a dictatorship, exposed government corruption and stood up against military interventions in Ukraine. He was assassinated in Moscow in 2015.

Following his death, democracy campaigner Vladimir Kara-Murza has worked to honour his legacy and spoken out against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

When we first visited in August 2023 this plaque was missing (purloined by a local Russian saboteur?) but it had reappeared by mid-September.
