Bowler plaque - Silk Design (B)

Erection date: 1995

We failed to find this plaque in Dec-Jan 2017. It shows a Garthwaite "silk design" similar but not identical to that on the Silk Design (A) plaque. The name 'Tenter Ground' indicates that this was, from , "an area used for drying newly manufactured cloth after fulling. The wet cloth was hooked onto frames called tenters and stretched taut so that the cloth would dry flat and square." Fulling was a process used in the production of woollen and similar fabrics so would not have been used for silks.

This cast-iron roundel is one of 22 - see Bowler's page for more details.
