Plaque

Camp Griffiss - SHAEF Gate

Erection date: 1994

Inscription

The SHAEF Gate
In memory of those gallant men and women who served in Camp Griffiss (Widewing) during World War II.  This gate is also dedicated to the brave men who cleared the Normandy beaches prior to the main D-Day landings on June 6th 1944.
This gate was presented in 1994 by Captain Sir Donald Gosling RNR.

Although the plaque does not specifiy we think the gate was used by the men and women who served at Camp Griffiss. But it's possible that, not only the gate, but the access through the wall itself was brand new in 1994. Perhaps a local could resolve this for us?
