Erection date: 1792
{On the plinth:}
Carolus II R
This marble statue, created as a replacement for the Grinling Gibbons statue, was completed in 1792 and placed at the centre of the second Exchange. It survived the 1838 fire, the only element which did so.

This statue is in a niche in the south-east corner of the main body of the Royal Exchange building. See Queen Elizabeth I statue for more information, such as how to see these 2 well-hidden statues.
The lighting in this corner gave the statue a nasty yellow tinge so we've adjusted our photos to almost monochrome.
