This building was opened by His Majesty King George V accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Mary on the twenty eighth day of June MCMXXXIV the twenty fifth year of his majesty's reign.

Built as a central, permanent, home for the Chartered Insurance Institute. The announced "The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has agreed to the sale of 20/21 Aldermanbury to The City of London Corporation." 

The bronze plaques on the pillars relate to other companies in the building.
